AI image tools that can hold a brand style across hundreds of assets

Consistency, not raw quality, is the bottleneck. Reference-locking and style training are what to evaluate.

AI image tools that can hold a brand style across hundreds of assets

Image quality stopped being the bottleneck some time ago. Consistency did not. The question to put to any generator is whether it can hold a single brand style across hundreds of assets.

The brief

One fictional brand, a defined visual identity — muted palette, specific lighting, a consistent illustration weight — and 200 assets to produce across four content types. Then a simple question: could a designer drop the output into a real campaign without correcting it?

Reference locking is the whole game

Tools that let you lock a style reference and weight it produced usable consistency. Tools relying on prompt text alone drifted, and drifted in a specific way that matters: slowly enough that you do not notice within a session, obviously enough that asset 1 and asset 90 do not belong in the same deck.

Two tools held the line across all 200. One held for about 60 assets before the lighting warmed noticeably. Three drifted within the first 30.

How to test this yourself in an hour
Generate 40 assets in one style. Shuffle them. Show a designer asset 1 and asset 40 side by side and ask whether they are from the same campaign. You will get a clearer answer than any feature comparison provides.

Where all six still fail

Text inside images remains unreliable enough that we would not ship it without a designer overlaying real type. Hands are better and no longer the running joke. Product accuracy — rendering a specific real object consistently — is still poor across the board, and no amount of reference weighting fixes it.

The workflow that actually worked

Generate backgrounds and abstract supporting imagery with the tool. Composite real product photography and real type on top in a design tool. This is unglamorous, it is what the teams shipping at volume actually do, and it sidesteps every remaining weakness in one move.

The short version

Two of six are production-ready for brand work, and only with reference locking configured properly. Judge these tools on the fortieth asset, never the first — the first is always good, and the first is not the job.
