Content briefs that survive contact with a freelance writer
Most brief templates specify keywords and nothing that determines quality. Here is what to add.
This is placeholder copy demonstrating the article template. It is not published research, and any figures in it are illustrative. Real articles replace it in the editor.

Content tooling promises to speed up the part of the process that was never the bottleneck.

What actually matters
The criteria below are the ones worth applying to anything in this category, whichever product you end up choosing. They focus on briefs, process — plus the two figures vendors rarely lead with: how long it takes to get to a first useful action, and what the tool costs per problem it actually resolves.
How to evaluate this properly
Drafting is cheap. Research, structuring, editing and fact-checking are where editorial time actually goes, and that is where these tools should be judged.
- Capability — what the tool finds or produces, measured against a known baseline rather than against the length of its own report.
- Prioritisation — whether the output separates the urgent from the cosmetic without you configuring it to.
- Time to first useful action — from signup to the first change you make because of the tool.
- Cost per resolved issue — the figure a finance team will ask about, and the one most vendors omit.
Our review approach, scoring criteria and disclosure rules are set out on the Editorial Methodology page. Where an article is sponsored or contains a Sponsored Highlight, it is labelled as such on the page.
Where that leaves you
The honest summary for most categories like this one is that the leading options are genuinely capable and the middle of the market is fairly interchangeable. If you already pay for something in the top tier, the case for switching is usually weak. If you are in the middle, you may be paying for breadth you never use.
The best result usually comes from tightening the brief rather than from adding another tool.
